CÜNAM Researcher Applications Are Now Open.

Sivas Cumhuriyet University Center for Nanophotonics Application and Research (CÜNAM) is a legal entity established under Law No. 6550 on the Support of Research Infrastructures, and stands as one of Türkiye's leading high-technology R&D ecosystems. Operating in the fields of nanophotonics, semiconductor technologies, optoelectronics, and advanced material sciences at global standards, CÜNAM is envisioned to develop value-added, globally competitive, and original technologies, to train the technology leaders of the future, and to serve as an advanced R&D interface for academic and industrial stakeholders. We are seeking dynamic, growth-oriented, and interdisciplinary "Researcher" team members to take part in strategic projects within our expanding research infrastructure and contribute to the development of innovative technologies.

  • Project Participation: To take an active role as a researcher in ongoing or newly developed national and international R&D projects (TÜBİTAK, EU, Horizon Europe, SSB, etc.) within the infrastructure.
  • Advanced Device Development: To actively participate in research activities aimed at developing III-V semiconductor-based single-photon avalanche diodes (SPAD), photodetectors, and advanced photonic/optoelectronic device technologies within national and international R&D projects carried out at CÜNAM.
  • SPAD Lifecycle Contribution: To contribute to the design, simulation, epitaxial structure development, fabrication, characterization, and performance optimization processes of single-photon avalanche diodes.
  • Epitaxial & Data Optimization: To plan growth processes, develop, and optimize procedures for III-V semiconductor structures utilizing MOCVD-related epitaxial growth technologies; to holistically evaluate data obtained from epitaxy, micro/nano fabrication, cleanroom, and advanced characterization processes to improve material quality, device performance, and manufacturing processes, thereby supporting the enhancement of sustainable semiconductor device development capabilities at CÜNAM.
  • Documentation & Reporting: To regularly document the processes regarding conducted research, development, and experimental studies; to contribute to the preparation of technical reports, project progress reports, scientific publications, and relevant R&D documentations, supporting the transformation of acquired knowledge into a sustainable and transferable institutional asset within CÜNAM.
  • Grant Proposal Development: To play a role in developing new project ideas and project proposals targeted at national and international funding programs.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: To work harmoniously with interdisciplinary teams (engineers, specialists, and graduate students) within the infrastructure to support the transfer of knowledge.

Strategic Infrastructure Vision: In line with the vision of Law No. 6550 on Research Infrastructures, to contribute to CÜNAM’s globally competitive technology development targets; to take an active role in efforts aimed at building sustainable research capabilities in advanced semiconductors and nanophotonics, developing original technologies, and generating high-quality scientific outputs, patents, and industry-transferable products/prototypes.

Education

  • Having completed undergraduate studies with outstanding academic success; ranking within the top 10% tier of the graduation list in the respective department/program for the year of graduation.
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in relevant fields within the departments of Physics, Physics Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering, Nanotechnology and Nanoscience, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, or related science/engineering departments of universities.

Language Proficiency

  • Having an advanced level of English proficiency; being capable of following international scientific literature, preparing high-impact publications and technical reports, taking part in project development processes within international funding programs, and communicating effectively in meetings, presentations, and technical evaluation processes conducted with foreign research groups.

Technical and Scientific Competencies

Possessing a research background, theoretical knowledge, and hands-on laboratory experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of the working principles, device physics, and performance parameters of single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) and advanced photodetector technologies. Experience in electrical and optical characterization processes of SPAD devices, data analysis, and evaluation of mechanisms limiting device performance.
  • Knowledge of III-V semiconductor-based single-photon avalanche diode device design, band structure engineering, carrier dynamics, and optoelectronic properties. Experience in conducting electric field distribution, avalanche breakdown, carrier transport, and device performance analyses for SPAD using TCAD (Silvaco Atlas, Synopsys Sentaurus, etc.), COMSOL Multiphysics, or similar semiconductor device simulation software.
  • Hands-on experience in semiconductor structure development, growth optimization, and material characterization studies using MOCVD/MOVPE targeted at Single-Photon Avalanche Diode and advanced photodetector structures.

Personal Competencies

  • Having advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a result- and solution-oriented approach; strong written and verbal academic communication skills; capable of working effectively in interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder R&D environments; possessing a professional working ethos that embraces strong team communication, open knowledge sharing, and a mutual learning culture.
  • Being willing to contribute to the enhancement of institutional knowledge by sharing technical expertise, research experience, and scientific know-how toward common research goals within the center, rather than keeping it limited to an individual field of study.
  • Acting with the understanding of sustainable development of advanced research infrastructures; possessing competencies to adapt to a teamwork-based research culture, with the awareness that equipment, laboratory, and technological capabilities are institutional assets rather than individual achievements.
