Director

Assoc. Dr. Ilkay Demir was born in Bafra-Samsun in 1984. Demir, who completed his primary and secondary education in Cayirova Primary School and STFA Anatolian Technical High School-Kocaeli, graduated from Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Science Physics Department in 2008. Subsequently, he started his graduate education in Hacettepe University Physics Engineering Department Solid State Physics and took part in R&D studies in the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory for a year. In 2009, he joined as a Research Assistant to Cumhuriyet University Physics Department. He completed his master’s and doctorate education in the field of “epitaxial semiconductor thin films”. While continuing his doctoral studies, he won the TUBITAK Abroad Doctoral Research Fellowship and continued his doctoral studies at the Center for Quantum Devices-Northwestern University between 2014-2015. He earned Doctorate degree in 2017, Assistant Associate Professor in 2018, and Associate Professor in 2020. He is currently working as a faculty member in the Department of Nanotechnology Engineering. He was appointed as the Director of Sivas Cumhuriyet University Nanophotonics Application and Research Center in August-2018, where he has been working since its establishment. He has taken part in many public and private sector projects as an executive, researcher, and consultant. Dr. Demir has lots of international publications andnational and international awards. He continues to work in the fields of III-V group semiconductor materials and optoelectronic-electronic devices, epitaxial crystal magnification, quantum cascade lasers, infrared lasers and detectors, and high power-frequency devices. He is married and has two children.
