A Big Step Towards Becoming a National Technology

Sivas Cumhuriyet University Nanophotonics Application and Research Center passed the first stage as a result of its application to receive support within the scope of Law No. 6550 on Supporting Research Infrastructures and was entitled to apply for qualification. CUNAM, which has applied for support within the scope of Law No. 6550 on the Support of Research Infrastructures, which regulates the management, financing, personnel structure, monitoring, evaluation, and support of research infrastructures to ensure the effective use and sustainability of research infrastructures, with the site visit and the panel report prepared on 19-20 September 2019, he was deemed worthy to apply for qualification.

Nanophotonics Application and Research Center, which was found successful among 10 candidate universities, including METU, Istanbul University, Bilkent University, Ege University, Atatürk University, and Ankara University, started preparations to apply for proficiency in the “thematic research laboratory” class. In this context, an information meeting was held on Law No. 6550 on Supporting Research Infrastructures, the secretariat of which was made by TUBITAK-ARGES.

The meeting, where Group President Dr. Dilek Candan and TUBITAK-ARGES team made a comprehensive presentation, was attended by Sivas Cumhuriyet University Rector Prof. Dr. Alim Yıldız, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hakan Yekbas, Nanophotonics Application and Research Center Manager Assoc. Dr. Ilkay Demir and faculty members working at the center. Law No. 6550 on Supporting Research Infrastructures entered into force on July 10, 2014, and the secondary legislation of the Law was published in the Official Gazette on August 28, 2015. According to Article 5/(1) of the said law, research infrastructures, for which a qualification decision has been made by the Research Infrastructures Commission (Commission), foresee to will gain a legal personality. With this law, only Bilkent-UNAM (National Nanotechnology Research Center), ODTU-MEMS Center, SUNUM (Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center), and IBG (İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center) are supported in our country.
